Plan and Persist with Valerie Kang Educational Services

Learning to Plan is Tough and Learning to Be Persistent can Be Even Tougher

I’m a certified Special Education Instructor and BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) specializing in autism, executive functioning, and behavior analysis. I am also a certified ADHD educator (ADHD-CE).

I am data-driven and student-centered with over ten years of experience supporting young people in reaching new heights. I specialize in working with students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I speak English, Korean, and Malay fluently. My specialty includes working with preschoolers and teens with autism and ADHD.

What I do

Executive Function Coaching

I use my expertise in behavior analysis to find the root causes of a student’s struggle. I provide training to not only the student but also to the parents and teachers at school as well.

Explicit Writing Instruction

I’m trained in Self Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD), a federally funded, nationally recognized, evidence-based explicit writing instructional method for student who struggle with writing.

Special Education Itinerant Teaching (SEIT) or SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services)

I am able to provide services in New York City Public Schools in a variety of ways. I am a PETS vendor and an approved SETSS provider. I also take private cases.

Parents Are Part of the Plan

For PreK students, I have specific experience replacing repetitive behaviors with more functional communication. In the school setting, I have been a lead teacher in general education as well as integrated and special classes in preschools. In the classroom, I focus on promoting age-appropriate play skills and listener-responding skills. I also have years of experience in supervising behavior therapists in their delivery of ABA services.

For older students, my approach involves more student voice. My work with youth includes collaborating with them from the start by incorporating their wishes into our work together while providing frequent structured feedback to both students and parents. We work on planning, setting individual goals, and improving adaptive living skills (hygiene, room organization support, and clean-healthy eating habits).

For me, parent training is often very important in supporting a student’s pursuit in improving skills, especially with self-regulation, goal-directed task persistence, and planning.

“Valerie Kang carefully analyzes about why a student is doing what they are doing. This is critical because oftentimes, students including my own children can’t say what they need regardless of their age. She’s not just thinking about the data. She is all about using it to make a plan and help the student get through their struggles. ”
